Rebecca Saunders

English composer. She comes from a musical family in London. She studied violin and composition at the University of Edinburgh. She continued her study of composition at the Hochschule für Musik in Karlsruhe under Wolfgang Rihm and Nigel Osborne. In 2000 Saunders lectured at the International Summer Courses of New Music in Darmstadt. She has been composer in residence at the following institutions: Konzerthaus Dortmund, Staatskapelle Dresden and Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival. She has received many awards for her compositional work (Busoni Prize of the Berlin Academy of the Arts, Ernst von Siemens Music Prize, Paul Hindemith Prize at Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival, GEMA Music Prize for Instrumental Music etc). From 2012 to 2014 she was Professor of Composition at the Hochschule für Musik, Theater und Medien in Hannover. In summer 2015 she started teaching at the Schloss Solitude Summer Academy.
